Our Spring Tiny House Life: Wins, Losses & Learning As We Go

Seven months into tiny house living — project wins, a succulent disaster, four-year-old suitcases finally sold, and what Spring looks like when you have a front-row seat to nature every day.
Our Spring Tiny House Life: Wins, Losses & Learning As We Go

Spring arrived in Texas - and with it, a full month of wins, losses, lessons, and a few things we'd been holding onto WAY too long finally finding new homes.

March: Wins, Losses & Spring

Our March video just went live — and the title says it all: Our Spring Tiny House Life: Wins and Losses.

Because that's what this month looked like. Some things we'd been waiting on for a long time finally got done. Some things we tried didn't go according to plan. And Spring arrived in Texas and showed us things we haven't noticed before.

Here's a taste of what's in the video:

The wins: The last blind — after a wrong bracket and a broken blind replacement — is finally installed! The reclaimed wood shelving project Bryan built for the living room is done and we love it. And the book storage problem I'd been quietly stressed about since we moved in? Solved, thanks to my idea for a shelf that Bryan made come to life with leftover wheels from another project.

The losses: I accidentally killed my favorite new plant. The bike trailer coupler didn't fit our e-bikes on the day we had everything loaded and ready to go for a day trip of riding. And four-year-old suitcases, still in the box, that should have been let go a long time ago finally — FINALLY — left the shed.

The season: Spring in a tiny house lake community is something else. Hummingbirds, birds migrating, turtles sunning on logs, morning glories being planted. We have a front-row seat to all of it every single day.

The bigger picture: We talk a little in this video about how we're structuring our work life and monthly expenses to make room for the kinds of days and trips we always wanted to take. Because that's really what this is all about.

What's Coming

The bike trailer coupler arrived. The morning glories are thriving. We took the bikes on our first real ride at a state park — and it was worth the wait.

Still figuring things out as we go - but that's the whole point. :)
